The Monster of Aramberri
...
The problem with the Aramberri specimen is lack of fossil material. There were only fragments of skull (a partial rostrum indicating tooth crowns 55 mm thick), and from what I understand that mysteriously vanished awhile back. A pectoral vertebra that paleontologist Richard Forrest lists as measuring 22 cm (almost 9”) in diameter does seem to confirm the original estimated overall length of 15 meters (around 50 feet). If accurate, that would make Aramberri the largest confirmed pliosaur and, if it was indeed a juvenile, as Dr. Eberhard Frey indicated (teeth marks on its remains from a larger specimen would seem to corroborate this), it would come from a species that represented the largest known marine predator of all time...
